This particular sketch is for my friend who is both moving away and just had a birthday. It was really easy and fun to do, probably because I really love the character. As soon as I decided to draw him I knew exactly how he would look and so he just jumped onto the page with the minimum of fuss… it’s nice when that happens. On the whole, I am pretty happy with how he turned out and more importantly my friend liked him too.

If somehow you are unfamiliar with Turnip Head, go and watch Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s done by the great Hayao Miyazaki of whom I am a massive fan. While you’re at it… watch the rest of his stuff too. My favourite is Porco Rosso… or is it Nausicaa… Gah! They’re all good!
