Finally! I kept finding things to fix so it’s a little late, but there it is anyway. I am getting used to Photoshop now, this page didn’t take anywhere near as long as the last and I’m confidant I can get faster still. The goal of a page a week is attainable… provided I don’t eat or sleep, or anything else for that matter. For now I’ll just aim to get down to fortnightly updates within this year. Next month: Where Is Clunt’s Apple?! View this Comic ...
Here it is at last. One of the reasons it took so long was that I have swapped from The Gimp to Photoshop and it took me a while to adjust. Also I’ve made a few changes to the way I do certain things. Hope you like it. View this Comic ...
Everybody knows Bards are awesome at eye-spy. Hooray for the page being ready on time! *Happy dance* View this Comic ...
*Phew* Made it… and it’s still Monday for almost a whole hour! Well here in Perth it is anyway. Lucky for me this was a simple page as this morning all I had was the pencil-work… which wasn’t much. I managed to do the whole page in only one day! Well actually it only took about 4 hours and it was pretty much done except that my trusted editorial team (The Wifey and the web monkey Dortamur) didn’t like the first round of clouds so I had to fix them up this evening after work. One day I’ll learn to manage my time better. View this Comic ...
* See page 7. Huzzah! A new page at last! On a Monday! Yeah it’s kind of late on Monday I admit, the reason being is that I am a fool. I finished the page on Thursday last week and waited the weekend smugly anticipating being able to post it today. It wasn’t till this morning when I went to post it that I realised that I had completley forgotten to do the shadows.
To make up for not posting something last Monday, here’s the next page! Hooray! This time it only took a smidgen over a month so I’m improving! Anyway… that’s the last we’ll see of the angels for now. Next
Well there it is. I’m pretty happy with it although I still can’t believe it’s been two and a half months since the last page! No promises on getting the next one up quicker but as I’ve almost finished the inking on it I am optimistic that it shouldn’t be too long. Although Fable 2 does come out this week… Btw if you just have the “latest page” bookmarked why not check out the sketches section, I’ve been putting some pretty good stuff (IMHO) up there on a pretty regular basis. Or just bookmark the main page. then you get everything!
So after only 2 weeks with my new tablet, here it is, page 32. The pencils were already done but even with the tablet this page was way more complex than anything I’d done before. I deliberately made the background a complete piece on it’s own which effectively doubled the amount of layers I was working on. I’ll post it in a couple of days so you can see it by it self. I think 2 weeks isn’t too bad considering that also includes learning how to use and getting used to the tablets quirks and intricacies. Oh and the ability to go back and fix things with the minimum of fuss after inking is just awesome… plus I can add things at any time which is dangerous because while I save so much time inking digitally I waste a lot playing and adding. All told I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out and am starting to feel quietly confident about what I’ll be able to accomplish in the future. I’m not going to go and rashly promise regular updates quite yet as I have a few side projects that I have promised to do that, while not paid, are all definitely worthwhile and will be good practice and force me to stretch my boundaries further. Despite those I am still pretty confident I can at least give you a new page more often than once a month. Please, feel free to let me know what you think either privately or in the comments below. I’d love to know if you can see a difference between this and previous pages. And don’t be afraid to criticise… as long as it’s constructive, otherwise I’ll cry and short out my keyboard, or worse… the tablet!
So here it is, page 31. Sneaking onto the site on the weekend while no one is looking, like a teenager getting home way past curfew. This one has been sitting on my pc about 90% complete for almost a month now. I have no excuse , I just seem to be really easily distracted lately. Plus at the stage it was it’s really hard to get back into it and get up enough momentum to finish it. That last 10% is my least favourite as it’s all just tweaking and fixing and so much time is wasted doing things that don’t actually end up in the finished product. Maybe if I actually worked on it more often it might get easier… there’s a thought. I ended up getting Burnout Paradise and it’s better than I remembered. Dortamur and I tooled around till about one in the morning doing a bunch of the two player Challenges and generally just arsing around. I’ve been really good and resisting the temptation to play it more instead of working on the comic but now this page is done I think I shall reward myself with some mayhem.
