For a while now I’ve wanted to start doing some pieces inspired by my favourite songs. Sitting at work a week or so ago this image popped into my head and I just started drawing. I haven’t cleaned the scan at all but eventually I’d like to do a colour version however I’m so busy/easily distracted at the moment that I have no idea when or if I’ll actually get around to doing it. Just in case you’re interested the song is “Farewell Rocketship” by a Melbourne band called “Children Collide”. Their debut album “The Long Now” came out recently. I saw them live back in september and this song just stuck in my head.
This is just an old concept sketch for a Sith character I’ve been playing around with. He may get a comic of his own at some stage. Yes I know his neck looks like it’s broken.
Not really happy with this one but it’s Monday and I don’t have anything else scanned that I want to post. The photo I used as reference was a bit blurry hence the lack of fine detail. Will have to do a better one at a later date as the character deserves a really kickass sketch. View this Sketch ...
Here’s a birthday sketch that hasn’t been given yet. But it’s Monday and I don’t have anything else decent to post at the moment. Plus I don’t think they know about the website yet so it should be all good. I’m fairly sure it’ll be well received as she’s a big Legend of Zelda fan and I reckon I’ve done a pretty good job. For those that aren’t already aware. I am a huge Astro Boy fan. Yet this was actually the first time I have drawn him. Why? Simply because I didn’t want to do a crap Astro. A few years back when I first started drawing, I began to give it a go, realised it would be awful, and stopped. Then last week at work I was pondering what to draw a mate for his bday and my brain said, “Why not?” So I grabbed some images for inspiration and then instead of copying one of those I decided to do something different. I drew him the way I see him. In every story there’s always that point where the bad guy has just pushed Astro’s sense of forgiveness too far and his resolve hardens, queue the music, it’s time to open up a can of Whoopass! This is very much a fan piece that I intend to turn into a full colour piece at some stage. My mate liked it too, which was a relief as I think it’s awesome.
Yup, that’s what it is. Not the most inspired of titles but it’s getting kinda late and I had a big weekend. It’s important to note that it’s still Monday, at least it is in Australia anyway… and something has been posted. Huzzah. I’m fairly proud of this one as unlike most of my other recent sketches there was no visual reference for him. As plain and simple as he may be he’s 100% straight from my brain… and doesn’t suck. Yay me.
I love Wallace and Gromit. So does my little brother who just had a birthday.
So here’s the last of the three birthday sketches from 2 weeks ago… has it really been two weeks!? Seems like longer, I’ve just been so busy lately. Like the other two Darth Maul was really appreciated by the recipient. I may have to just maintain this level as I get better instead of trying to beat it or slacking off. I just like seeing the reactions. Gives me warm fuzzies. As a side note, earlier today I happened to be showing a couple of my friends my tablet and how I do the comic and the gentleman in question suggested something to me that will shave at least a couple of hours off the time it takes to colour a page. Needless to say I was quite happy at the prospect. It kind of drove home just how much more you can do if you actually know what your doing. Also, the latest page is almost done, fingers crossed it should be up next Monday. View this Sketch ...
The second of the three birthday sketches from last weekend. This one was for a friend who, among other things, likes cats and I thought if she likes cats then she probably likes “Cats“… you follow me? And if that were true then there was only one character to draw for her. Anyway she liked it so it’s all good.
